OUTDOOR SCULPTURE
Ushimado Yacht Harbor, Okayama, Japan
A group of four outdoor sculptures installed in a park overlooking the marina in Ushimado. Made from wood and metal, the works also incorporate forms developed during workshops with local children. Reflective surfaces capture the sea, sky, and visitors, changing the appearance of the sculptures with the weather and time of day.

高松市美術館 / Takamatsu, Japan
A work that transforms disused furniture and household appliances into circus sculptures by combining them with wheels, metal, and various other parts. While retaining traces of the original forms of the furniture, layered materials and structures generate new sculptural forms.

Takamatsu Art Museum / Takamatsu, Japan
Originally built to monitor water levels and wildlife activity in a rice field and protect the crops, this device stands outdoors, entwined with climbing vines, while transmitting live images of the field to a computer. Relocated to the museum, it was exhibited as Scarecrow. A contemporary scarecrow born out of practical necessity.

Wind and Sun Bath

Yoki! Kanaya / Tonami, Toyama
A sculpture created in Tonami, where wind and water are defining features of the landscape. Combining a wind turbine, a solar water heater, and a cedar footbath, the work allows visitors to feel the wind through the turning turbine and the sun’s warmth through water heated by solar energy. It offers a way to experience natural forces through movement and temperature.

Yoki! Kanaya / Tonami, Toyama
A sculpture that combines a refrigerator with ceramics, lighting, and sound. During the day, it functions as a stand for chilled drinks; at night, it transforms into a small club through light, shadow, and music. While retaining the refrigerator’s original function, it creates different kinds of comfort depending on the time of day.

Outdoor play equipment and museum exhibits are subject to different safety standards and rules of use. By relocating the swing to the museum, the work reveals the relationship between a structure made for play and an artwork through the restrictions imposed by its new setting.

Takamatsu Art Museum / Takamatsu, Japan
A functional sculpture originally built to roast a whole wild boar. A fire is lit beneath it, and the boar is slowly rotated and roasted over time, allowing the sculpture to function as a cooking device. Viewing the sculpture as an artwork and using it for its intended purpose take place in the same setting.

Takamatsu Art Museum / Takamatsu, Japan
An installation consisting of bags filled with rice harvested from the fields we have cultivated on Teshima since 2017. Throughout the exhibition, our family continues to take rice home to eat, gradually reducing the amount left in the bags. The rice displayed in the museum is both an artwork and food, returning to everyday life as it is consumed.
